Mohan is a popular Kollywood actor. His actual name is Mohan Rao hailing from Udupi district of Karnataka. He derived his name Kokila Mohan by acting in film called Kokila
Career
Mohan was known as the "silver jubilee hero" in the 1980s based on the success of movies that he starred in. His nickname 'Mike' Mohan owes to the fact that he performed as a stage musician with a hand-held microphone in virtually all of his movies.
He usually played decent roles in films and one of the plus point is that he resembles Kamal Hasan, to some extent. He is a lucky cine Actor since the songs in his films are super hit. Surender (Singer) used to voice this actor. S.P. Balasubramaniam (Play back) singer used to praise him since he brings out the full expression required for the songs.
Mohan debuted in the 1977 Kannada language film, Kokila [3], directed by veteran Balu Mahendra. His first appearance in a Tamil language film was a guest role in Moodu Pani. This was followed by Nenjathai Killaadhey, which ran for a year and won best cinematography national award for director Mahendran.[citation needed] This film started the peak period of Mohan's career, which lasted almost eight years. Mohan's profile dropped considerably by the late 1980s following a series of flops, ironically he never made a good attempt to recapture his Stardom.
Mohan was best known for his stage singer roles. Many of his films had successful musical albums scored by Maestro Ilayaraja, which feature songs that are still remembered after 25 years. At the peak of his career he also played villain in blockbusters such as Nooravadhu Naal & Vidhi and comedies such as Sahadevan Mahadevan & Rettai Vaal Kuruvi. He also acted in few telugu movies which were hit in those days. One of them is under Jandhyala direction 'choopulu kalasina subhavela' in 1988 was a super hit in Telugu.
Mohan's landmark role in Sujatha Production's Mouna Ragam as a gentle middleman , might be his best performance regarded,won National Award for Best Tamil Film and started the career of now famous director Mani Ratnam.
